George Redmonds, a renowned local historian, recently released a new book chronicling the history of names and how they originated. He was recently a guest speaker at one of the Society's monthly talks. Click here to buy the book at Amazon.

Society provides litter bins to local villages [May 1 2004]

Discussions with council officials have led to a number of sites being chosen where form arrangements are in place to empty them regularly. Sites chosen include: Carr Lane, Slaithwaite; Manor Road, Golcar; Scar lane, Milnsbridge; Station Road, Marsden; Hoylehouse Fold, Linthwaite.

All bins are vandal proof and bare the Society's emblem.

We now accept worldwide payments via PayPal and Nochex [Feb 2 2003]

Anyone wishing to order any of our publications can now do so electronically. From 1st February, we can accept online payments via PayPal or Nochex. These methods are great for anyone wishing to order from overseas or for anyone wishing to avoid using cheques or postal orders. E-mail us if you require more information.

Credit card payments may be accepted soon

We are looking into the possibility of accepting credit card payments for purchasing  our videos or publications. We know this would be highly beneficial to those people living outside of the UK. This possibility is in its early stages. We hope to have final confirmation by the end of January 2003.

Mike Shaw launches his new book on the CVS web site

Mike Shaw, a regular columnist for the Huddersfield Daily Examiner, has written a fantastic new book of Yorkshire dialect anecdotes. Mike is a long standing executive member of the Colne Valley Society and renowned for his expert knowledge of the Yorkshire language. (See right column)

The book is available through this web site, from certain shops in the Colne Valley and from the Huddersfield Daily Examiner shop.

New site design goes live
